One listening to Li Jen can’t help but notices the variety of roles he plays as he guides his students through their coursework on a day-to-day basis. In fact, the dexterous changing of roles, and an awareness of the need to do so, as a response to the faceted nature of an A Level Art coursework goes a long way to determining its outcome. So far, there is not yet another A Level subject component that deals with thinking, emotions and the material world we live in more explicitly than the A Level Art coursework. All this points to the necessary pre-service training Art teachers must go through before they are ready to take on the pedagogical beacon to lead their students through the treacherous/textured but preciously developmental terrain of the Art coursework. This pre-service training is very different from one received by an artist.
