For Li Ping, Art is Life. By extension, Art Education is an education on life. Therefore, if I were an Art student under Li Ping, I would learn or experience Art, and gain and appreciate valuable knowledge about Art between her words and amongst her life. She would engineer opportunities to bring me into various enclaves of her life – in a heart-warming and hospitable manner – to make meaning of life through Art. “Aesthetics is an important part of life”, I remember this winner of UOB’s Most Promising Young Artist of the Year unequivocally declared the position of Aesthetics (and Art) in her life. Even her husband Benny is natural in Art. From the selection of ingredients, to the way these ingredients were prepared, to the manner they were finally presented for us, his guests, to enjoy – artful! Even the way they express affection for each other and the flat they reside in are sprinkled with evidence of the artful touch. It is not exactly ID (if you know what I mean). But you would not leave them and their flat without noticing the parallel between the holistic appreciation of life, the near panoramic vista of Singapore outside and the panoramic view on Art both Li Ping and Benny seem to share.
Tactile as an exhibition epitomise this view. The process of preparing Tactile with Li Ping is certainly a Li Ping-ish panoramic experience of Art and Art Education too.
