13 Mar 2010: Recent experiences and the thoughts triggered by them tuned my ears to hums in Shihan’s interviews I missed in the past. The Outward Bound (Korea) course, the release of the A Level results, the CIP at Tanjong Balai (Indonesia) and this morning’s Singapore Biathlon at East Coast – personal epics with a grandeur that may only be adequately captured by personal artworks. When we record our daily passages with Art, we crystallize ephemereal drips for eternity.
Seeing beauties in humble sketches of sights in no-camera-allowed NS; recognizing idiosyncratic mess as humorous precursor eddies of a well orchestrated painting; knowing that “no product” is not necessarily “no work done”. Regardless, a readiness to inject surprises, humour and beauty are the hums I gathered from Shihan.
For months, I had wanted to return to reflecting on Shihan’s interview. I’m glad I did just that.
